We are continuing the Costa Brava series with a special post, I will show you today probably one of the most picturesque spots in La Costa Brava, a little fishermen village (it has no more than 7 houses in total) called Cala S’Alguer.
This village is reachable only walking through one of the Costa Brava coastal paths, but it’s quite a short one, in around 15 minutes from Platja Castell you’ll be there! (Note: Costa Brava coastal paths are called “Camí de ronda” in Catalan in case you need to find more info!),
Platja Castell is a very beautiful wild beach that it’s located in a natural protected area, therefore not any typical apartment buildings anywhere near. The only two constructions are an abandoned fisherman’s tools shed and a familiar house (Casa Puig Palau) from the 40s constructed like an Italian vila, which is not visible from the beach. The rest of the area is a wetland and it’s common to see ducks reaching the beach (cute!). If you want to see more of Platja Castell jump to this post.
Our tip for a beautiful day is to spend some time at Platja Castell, maybe a couple hours enjoying the water and the surroundings, and then during the golden hour walk towards Cala S’Alguer to see the sunset from there.
The tiny remote fishermen’s town dates from the 16th century, nowadays the houses are practically only used as vacation properties. It is a pebble beach, I haven’t bathed here more than up to the knees, but the beautiful colorful doors, the white houses and the boats in front of them are the principal attraction.
In fact, it’s not only us that we can’t stop ourselves from taking pics here, there are lots of brands that take their editorials photos in Cala S’Alguer because it conveys perfectly the summer and sailor vibe.
Take into account that Cala S’Alguer is actually divided into two parts, S’Alguer, which is the main town and then S’Alguer petit, which is another cove with 4 more houses at 3 minutes walk one from the other. If you want to take pics S’Alguer petit is less crowded.
S’Alguer Petit
We have visited Cala S’Alguer also walking from La Fosca, a very popular beach, but take into account that the walk through the coastal path is longer from there.
Now that we share this secret, let’s take good care of this town to keep it as gorgeous as it is!
Photographer’s dream! You captured it so beautifully :) :)
