Instax challenge: January 2015

Instax challenge - The cat, you and us

We are today starting our first photography challenge in the blog: The Instax Challenge. We are always afraid of joining daily photography challenges because the pessimistic bug in me can’t stand the idea of not delivering enough interesting shots or losing one day. I know lots of people tell you how it doesn’t matter if you lose one day, but I know that my head would explode with guilt, ha! But since there are lots of good things you can get from a challenge we thought we could make a good compromise and start a monthly challenge using our Instax camera.

We will deliver one picture taken with our Instax wide for each month of the year during this 2015, a brand total of 12. Looks easy right? Not so sure, because since we got the camera in 2012 (not counting our wedding guest album) we have only finished one film pack, a shamefully bad mark, don’t you think?

Instax challenge - The cat, you and us

That’s why our goals with this challenge are the following:

  • Use our Instax wide camera. That’s the most obvious one ;)
  • Learn how to use it. We know the basics but as photography nuts know until you haven’t struggled with its pros and cons you don’t know your camera.
  • Take the camera on our adventures. This camera has never seen the light of the day, crazy right? And I have a feeling that the outside has to be its forte.
  • Have fun creating our instax wall art!

Truth is that this post was about to be called the Polaroid challenge, but during last post photo session we realized that our beloved Polaroid 1000 camera is not working anymore. It had a film loaded for months but I didn’t know it could damage the camera, maybe it wasn’t this at all, but now we have changed the film for a brand new one and still not making a peep. However we were planning on using both cameras on the challenge before knowing the sad news, so the Instax is now left alone in it, I’m sure she will feel good being the queen.

And now the important stuff, do you own an Instax camera? Would you like to join? We are publishing each photo also on IG with the hashtag #instaxchallenge2015 so feel free to join us on your blog, IG or Facebook!

I really like this idea, and I actually completely sympathise with you about the 365 day challenges. I would also feel guilty but the perfectionist in me would also find it really hard to do the project if i was not able to actually do all 365 days – kind of an all or nothing mentality – but not necessarily the right mentality. Still, this is much less stressful and do able. I am also with you on the same page about film cameras though – I have an instax camera that I have yet to even use! Wonder if the film eventually goes bad …

I have had my heart set on an Instax forever! But I still don’t have one … I guess I’m still getting into the routine of using my regular camera again, and I have worried that the Instax is more of a novelty item. I’m looking forward to following you along on this challenge though!

Oh! Thanks Kathryn, we bought our Instax wide because it was more of a fit for the wedding guest album but the mini is such a cutie.

Oh, this is so great! I reaaaally want to get a new pack of film for my Polaroid and experiment some more! But I currently have other priorities money wise so I’m going to have to postpone this idea a little. Happy to check back here every month for your challenge though!

Aw! Which Polaroid do you have? One of the 600? I think the paper for those are a little more affordable, yet soo expensive still :S The same happens with the Instax. However since we have only finished 1 pack so far I can’t complain about money ;)

Aha! We did a similar polaroid project last year :) It was about taking polaroid pics everyone who came to our house; and the result was so fun :) then we hung some of our favorites into the wall.
This year, we are definitely carrying the camera with us wherever we go, anddddddd of course to Barcelona too! (so be ready to be taken some crazy instax captures)

  7. Oooooh! I love the idea! It is a nice way to get to use your camera. I realize I have a problem getting nice pictures with my polaroid 600, and at the end I don’t use it often. If you don’t mind I think I’ll join you in your photo quest ;) 2 years ago I started a 365 pictures project and I felt just like you, and when I started missing days I just stopped.

Ah this is so cute and definitely do-able! I started that 52 week project with gremlin and failed (oops) who would of thought one photo a week would be hard?!? I get super guilts too when I don’t follow through with projects but one photo a month is definitely achievable :) I’m jealous of you instax kids – can I cheat and just use my normal Polaroid camera, would that be bending the rules too much? Actually I hope my camera still works – I honestly haven’t used it in soooo long. I’m sorry to hear about your Polaroid guy too but I think your Instax project will be amazing and he’ll definitely step up to the plate :)

Cats can be tricky to photograph no matter how handsome and dapper they are (hence Gremlin) :) so I think it’s extra challenging to keep up with a weekly photography project with them. Please cheat and join us! It will be so much fun, I’m anticipating so many cute things in your pictures! Awwwww

thanks! I really hope to learn some lessons about the instax, she surely doesn’t feel our love right now :)

  11. So fun! I should do this with my Polaroid camera – it never sees the light of day! And a monthly challenge is much more attainable than daily or weekly. Looking forward to following yours! xo

I got an Instax for Christmas so I’d love to play along! I’m doing well so far since I’m almost through my second pack! Which may get expensive but I’m enjoying it so much that I don’t care!
