I really love all the Halloween galore: skeletons, pumpkins, black cats, witches, vampires, you name it! I guess, a little bit, like the Japanese can’t help it but jump on board with any quirky festivity; no matter how far from typical in Spain all of it is. During the same weekend we do have another tradition called Castanyada where people eat chestnuts and sweet potatoes, but I think there is nothing written about not joining them both: so here we have our Halloween-Castanyada with all the cool things of the former with the delicious treats from the second.

After realizing that we have never craved a pumpkin before, our guests came home with a big badass pumpkin called Mrs Ruperta and another more handy one easier to clean and to play with. It was our first attempt so we decided to keep it easy with an evil cat while Elena and Eugeni went for the classic Jack Skeleton.

We decorated our table with all the easy DIYs we shared last week here on the blog,: the ghosts became a wonderful spooky chandelier (I loved the result so much that I was tempted to keep it during all winter, ha!), the bat pumpkins made our dishes prettier, the pom pom garland hanged on our wall art and we used the bat(man) straws for a delicious hot chocolate. But also added a little something else, halloween confetti (spiders, witches and pumpkins), orange stripes napkins, spider cups and Halloween-ish figures of Gru, Harry Potter, Bride of Frankestein, Maleficient, Zero and wormy guy from The Corpse Bride.

For the dinner we chose our favorite food: Japanese! plus our pumpkin specialities: pumpkin curry soup and pumpkin caramelized onion and goat cheese bruchettas. The good thing about both is that you can prepare them beforehand and then heat it just before dinner, that’s always helpful when you are having guests at home. Do you have any entertaining tips?

Skeleton hair clip twins!
After dinner we craved our pumpkins and finished the evening with the lighting ritual! So cool! Love how Jack becomes so scary with the light while I see a sweet face when he is not lightened up. Also next time we need to make bigger holes because the cat light extinguishes very quickly out of oxygen, silly heads, how have we not thought about this before!

Thank you to our dear guests!
Hope you guys had a lovely scary time this last wekeend, and wish you a wonderful November. Are you as excited as I am to start playing Christmas carols and start planning Christmas decor? Yes, two times I mentioned Christmas, I am already allowed by the calendar! ha! :)
