Hello there! We are very excited today because… drumrolls… we are opening Catweek second edition, a week exclusively devoted to share things cat related!
We are honoured to start with a very special present, Nagataya Kyoto is kindly offering a personalized Japanese calligraphy painting for one of you, cat or non-cat (everyone is invited!) lover. Scroll down to participate with the rafflectoper application.
Mitsuru Nagata is a Kyoto born artist living in Barcelona. Wondering how he came to our city (gossip mode on) we learnt that after falling in love with Maika during an students stage in London they have been calling Barcelona their home for 10 years; our romantic selves can’t resist an international love story.
His art is called Shodou – the way of writing – a japanese calligraphic art that requires perseverance, a firm hand and concentration with a strong Buddhist connection. Mitsuru has been learning & improving since he was a little kiddo at the age of 6. He sometimes pairs the proverbs with floral or fauna drawings, while most of them are cats, he also draws cute koy fish or dragons (see this video where he shows how he is able to draw the dragon with a single brush stroke). If you want to check more about him (spoiler: we learnt that his granpa was a kimono designer!) or his art don’t hesitate to check their blog.
Are you familiar with Shodou? Have you ever taken part of any Japanese artistic atelier, like calligraphy or ikebana?
How to enter
You can win your own personalized quote painting by leaving us a comment and checking in the rafflecopter below. Your A3 (11.7 × 16.5 inches) painting will have the same two kitties from the pictures but the quote will be the one of your choice, which we find extra neat!
Oh! and don’t worry if you don’t know yet which quote would you like better, we will contact the winner, on the 5th of February, so you can tell us then or ask Mitsuru himself for one.a Rafflecopter giveaway
The giveaway will be open until the 5th of February at 12:00AM (Barcelona’s time), winner will be randomly selected by the Rafflecopter application and announced on the 6th of February 2015. Worldwide entries will be accepted, good luck to everyone!
