I’ll be home for Christmas

Hello there! We are making a quick halt to the Japan stories to give the blog a little of the season cinnamon & fudge flavour, so here is an update on how our home currently looks like for Christmas.

The 6th and 8th of December it’s holidays here in Barcelona. Stores usually open to seize the Christmas season because lots of people make them their gift shopping dates, and it’s also when we put up our Christmas tree and holiday decoration. Since we don’t have Thanksgiving as a trigger to the season, I think it’s very nice to have those two free days to start this lovely season in the best possible way.

Do you have any tradition regarding your Christmas decorations? Ours is to have at least one DIY and to get a new trinket for the Christmas tree. This year for the DIY we went for something super simple, big pom-pom letters, while for the tree we bought a cutie patootie Mary Poppins at the Disney Store during the Black Friday sales.

These are the cardboard letters we are going to transform into pom-pom letters with our DIY!

We love Christmas songs so much, the first day of the year we are allowed to start playing our lists non-stop is exactly the day we put up our decorations. This vinyl is of course a favorite! Wish we had the red version.

Do you remember the wreath with the little red nose that lights up? This was our last Christmas DIY! Check it out here in case you missed it.

She makes such a perfect assistant, and also we have to give her props for ignoring the tree like a champ. She has never tried to get any of the shinny balls to play, she prefers to hide underneath to sleep, ha!

For the DIY we bought cardboard letters, of a medium size (around 7 inches tall). Then, if you don’t already own lots of pom-poms you should make more or less 40 units. We are those kind of people that had already pom-poms from previous decorations, ha! so we only had to add three more to complete the DIY. Then use a hot glue gun to stick the pom-poms and you’ll have it! Don’t need to use lot of glue since they don’t come off easily. We tried several combinations with the colors we already had, like mixing everything, or making a pattern but decided that what worked best for us was to keep 1 color for each letter.

Voila! This is the final result and how they look once in our shelf.

When we finished with the decorations we weren’t able to keep Juno Christmas gift from her anymore, one of these fluffy kawaii cat hats you can get in a toy vending machine in Japan. The color is chosen randomly, so the white was maybe not the best match for our white cat, but still I think she looks beyond adorable! Unluckily she does not seem to agree with me, and was not that amused. We’ll make another attempt and if she doesn’t like it then, we will call it quits.
