NYC: Dream boat

Central Park boats - The cat, you and us

Dreams, those that you put in a bucket list, can be very random and surprising sometimes.

Since Dani confirmed, during a visit in Versailles (check post if you fancy!) that row boats where certainly his thing, he immediately put the Lake on Central Park as his number 1 row boat dream experience. People that know him in real life may never guess he loves it so much, in fact he kind of avoids (& even boicots, ha!) every possible bigger boat ride in our trips. What he likes about row boats is that we are all alone and that he is the one that is driving it. Therefore, it’s not a big boat fobia, instead, what he loves is the freedom & the romantic notion of being for ourselves beyond the sea (ehem… the lake)

Driving a boat on Central Park is less expensive than I anticipated, roughly 15$ for 1 hour, we didn’t find any lines at all and also not many boats on the lake to dodge (not sure if that is the correct term with boats). The lake is quite big and there are not only great views, but a bridge to cross (which is always fun) and small turtles and ducks.

Dani was wearing his Waldo t-shirt (do you remember how I unashamedly stole it in this photo session?) while skillfully driving the boat, suddendly a lady on a boat next to us said out loud: look, how cute! he is like a gondolier! And promptly added a “can I take a picture of you two? The gondolier & the girl?”

Dani turned more red than his shirt, because lots of other boats turned to look at us and we could also hear whispers: “they are right, he looks like a gondolier”. However, I thought it was such a sweet moment, wasn’t it? We haven’t really thought through the outfit, but it certainly ringed so much true, the only thing missing was the straw hat, ha!

This scene was too much fun! The little duck in the picture had been following us since the beginning of our ride, when we reached a certain area of the lake the two big ducks started chasing him with loud “quack” sounds. I think he somehow managed to surpass their area and they weren’t too happy about it.

Do you like row boats? Or maybe kayak? Or even more impressive, do you have a boat driving license? Have you ever been in Central Park, what was your favorite part?
