Cinque Terre: the sneak peek

Cinque Terre: the sneak peek - The cat, you and us

Hello there! We are back with more about our Cinque Terre getaway, as we did in our previous three travels (Wales, Sintra and Amsterdam) we are going to share a little sneak peek of the complete trip via our phone snapshots. Thanks for the kind words about our Italy travelling outfits, you’re a gorgeous bunch!

Cinque Terre (pronounced in Italian like “tcheenqwai tairrai”) is the name that receive 5 linked towns in the Ligure region coast: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. All of them share similar characteristics, they are (more or less) built on top of the mountain, with colorful pastel Italian-aged-enchanting houses, have the most gorgeous blue rocky beaches and there is a hiking path on the mountain connecting them.

It was fun for us to learn that although it’s a quite unknown area for us here in Spain (almost neighboring Italy) with people even asking us “what would you find there?” it was obviously wide appreciated by people from the States; taking into account the English accent I would say up to 9 from 10 tourists where from there. We were speculating over the fact that maybe there was a movie happening at Cinque Terre towns or either it had appeared in a popular travelling media as possible explanations of its huge success. It has a very picturesque enchantment, even for Mediterranean peeps like us, so no wonder everyone is in love with this coastal area. Hope you can feel its bewitching atmosphere through our pics too!

Cinque Terre has an amazing smell and sounds. You can feel the lemons from the trees that are spread everywhere, pesto sauce & pasta coming from the restaurant kitchens, the sea, olive oil on top of bread, the anchovies and also fried calamari & fish smell. You can hear the birds, the waves crashing into the rocks, people splashing in the water, crickets during the evenings, the sonority of the Italian at the end of each word. You can feel the towns’ slow pace which was just what we needed.

We will come back with the more “official” pics in following posts that include lots of wonderful details of the towns rather than the most postcard scenes of this sneak peek, A dopo lovelies!
